Since its founding, the San Lorenzo Express has been produced by a collaborative team of volunteers who take on specific tasks for as long as they care. Individuals can learn as much as they choose about newsgathering and reporting as well as the technology of web-based news publishing. As of 2010, a change to a professional staff, supported by grants and advertising income, is being explored.
Community association correspondent -- One person to report news on the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association, one reporter for the Ashland Community Association, and one reporter for the Cherryland Community Association.
Business editor -- Notify news editor of possible news stories; review and approve material from businesses for posting on the Express website (the Express accepts advertising without charge for businesses within San Lorenzo).
Calendar editor -- Make sure the Express is getting notice of public meetings; write up short announcements of meetings; notify news editor of possible news stories. Calendar editor must be willing to update the Express calendar page as often as necessary.
Photographers
Obituaries -- compile basic information on death of San Lorenzo residents from daily (current) local publications. See our obituaries.
Scan manager -- Coordinate scanning of printed documents into e-files. Receive requests for scanning and assign to volunteers; do some scanning.
HTML coders -- Format text files in HTML for publication on the website. Contribute ideas to the development of the Express website.
Graphic artists -- Create graphics as needed for the Express website, producing finished graphic e-files. Contribute ideas to the development of the website.
