San Lorenzo Express Staff Needs

The San Lorenzo Express is a community effort. It is the product of volunteers doing the editorial and production jobs described below. Our goal is to create a collaborative team in which individuals can learn as much as they choose about newsgathering and reporting as well as the technology of Web-based publishing. If you are interested in any of these jobs, or have new ideas for exanding the website, contact Website Editor.

Editorial

News editor -- Temporarily filled.

News reporters -- The Express will accept news articles from anyone at any time, but to make sure we are covering all news of interest to the community we need reporters who will write regularly for publication. We would like reporters to take responsibility for specific topics, such as education, crime, land-use planning, etc., to make sure we are gathering timely news.

Community association correspondent -- One person to report news on the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association, one reporter for the Ashland Community Association, and one reporter for the Cherryland Community Association.

Business editor -- Notify news editor of possible news stories; review and approve material from businesses for posting on the Express website (the Express accepts advertising without charge for businesses within San Lorenzo).

Calendar editor -- Make sure the Express is getting notice of public meetings; write up short announcements of meetings; notify news editor of possible news stories. Calendar editor must be willing to update the Express calendar page as often as necessary.

History editor -- Identify historical materials (stories, lists, photos, etc.) that should be published on the website.

Forum moderator -- Approve and edit postings for the San Lorenzo Forum operated by the Express (not yet in operation). This position might be shared by two individuals if the number of postings becomes great.

Photographers

Obituaries -- compile basic information on death of San Lorenzo residents from daily (current) local publications. See our obituaries.

Production

Forum technician -- Set up web-based forum and trouble-shoot problems.

Scan manager -- Coordinate scanning of printed documents into e-files. Receive requests for scanning and assign to volunteers; do some scanning.

Scanners -- The Express anticipates the need for a large amount of scanning and would like to have a few people willing to scan printed documents. If you have a scanner and limited time, this is a perfect way to contribute to the Express.

HTML coders -- Format text files in HTML for publication on the Web. Contribute ideas to the development of the Express website.

Graphic artists -- Create graphics as needed for the Express website, producing finished graphic e-files. Contribute ideas to the development of the website.
