Nomination Papers for Local Offices Due August 8

Voters in the Eden unincorporated area will elect a number of local officials in the general election this November. Citizens interested in running for office have from today through August 8 to file candidate papers. The period will be extended five days for any office for which the incumbent does not file for reelection.
Candidate papers are available at the county Registrar of Voters office at 1225 Fallon St., Room G-1, Oakland (267-6933, www.acgov.org/rov).
Seats are available on a variety of public boards of directors whose decisions affect the quality of life or tax bill of residents of the Eden unincorporated area, which includes San Lorenzo, the Ashland and Cherryland districts, and Castro Valley.
- AC Transit District One at-large seat is open; the incumbent is Chris Peeples. Ward 4 includes San Lorenzo, Ashland, and Cherryland; the incumbent is Rocky Fernandez and his term expires December 2010. www.actransit.org

- Oro Loma Sanitary District The district provides sewer and garbage collection service to residents of an area that includes San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland. Three seats are open; incumbents are Roland Dias, Laython Landis, and Tim Becker. Two four-year seats are open and one two-year seat.
